The SPCA
The SPCA is an organinization that helps sick, injured, abandoned and rejected animals. It has been around for 125 year and is the oldest animal welfare charity in New Zealand. They help by caring for the animals and making sure they have the five freedoms. The five freedoms are what the SPCA makes sure every animal in the shelter has, they are:
Freedom from hunger and thirst
Freedom from discomfort and inadequate shelter
Freedom from disease and injury
Freedom from distress and pain
Freedom to behave normally, play and enough exercise
The SPCA finds lots of sick injured and abandoned animalsq and are dedicated to helping them find a home. All of the animals are put up for adoption once they are healthy again.
I'm sure lots of you would be upset if your pet went missing.
The SPCA finds hundreds of missing animals each year. Some of them are returned home but most never return home.
When a lost animal comes into the shelter they always get a health check. They work closely with seven differ vet clinics to ensure the animals get properly looked after. Some animals get really sick and get more treatment. They also need to get foster homes so they can be looked after.
The SPCA speaks for the ones that can't speak for themself. They encourage people to adopt and care for the animals with horrible backgrounds in life so remember to support the SPCA and donate to stop animal cruelty.
